DDI's philosophy is to create courses that are pedagogically sound, are of high production value, and are highly interactive, thus giving the end user a quality learning experience. We strive to exploit the computer and Internet with regard to what they do best, i.e., provide compelling interactivity that engages the user and significantly enhances the learning experience.

Your courses will, at minimum, contain the following elements. Other elements may be added as needed to support the online instruction.

  • Welcome Page - The Welcome page will feature a brief description of the course.
  • Course Contents Page - This will contain the course description, course objectives, materials of instruction, and other course information. It will also contain a line-by-line display of hot-linked section titles along with brief descriptions.
  • Getting Started Page - The Getting Started page will lead the first-time user, step-by-step, through the process of accessing any required online materials (e.g. plug-ins) prior to beginning the first lesson.
  • Modules - Content will be broken into modules (defined below), linked together and with the other course components. Each module will be designed around active learning strategies and, as appropriate, will utilize text, graphics, simulation, interactive multimedia, audio, and video as instructional tools. In terms of content, each lesson will contain objectives, learning content, a review of key points, lesson questions/self tests, and assignments/projects where appropriate.
  • Course Interaction - Communication tools will include email, list-serv, threaded discussion, and chat capabilities where appropriate. This provides users the opportunity to communicate between and among themselves and the instructor, thus creating a community of people with similar interests and values. The average time to complete a lesson will be 30 minutes to 1 hour. When Students register for the course, they will be provided access for a period of of time that you determine.

Front-End Web Site Specifications

A front-end website will be designed to convey an appealing look and feel, appropriate for the content. In addition to serving as a compelling marketing feature for the courses, it will consist of the following:

  • Course Listing - Students will be presented with a hot-linked list of this and other available courses.
  • Registration - To take a course, students must first register and choose a user name and password.
  • Student Login - Access to the course will be controlled by the user name and password.
  • Demo - Potential students may wish to sample a part of the course. This demo will include key course components along with a strong value pitch.

The web site is optimized for either Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer (4.7 or higher) per an auto-detect function. You can opt a Flash (animated) or non-Flash version of Home Page but Flash is required for the courses. If necessary,the learner will have the opportunity to easily download the Flash plug-in from the Home Page or from the course description page.

User Hardware and Software Requirements

  • Operating system: 98, 2000, NT, ME or XP
  • Internet browser: Internet Explorer 4.7 or Netscape Navigator 4.7 or higher
  • Internet connection with min. 56 KBPS · VGA (256-color) Monitor, min. resolution 800 x 600 pixels.
  • Application specific browser plug-ins - typically Flash and QuickTime which can easily be downloaded from the site.
