The September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States have had significant
and sustained emotional aftermath. The need for mental health professionals
to respond in creative and helpful ways has been evident in the
aftermath of these attacks. Participants in this training will learn
how to understand and recognize responses to traumatic events, conduct
debriefings, and focus on the needs of special populations such
as children and families. Using the techniques presented will help
therapists reduce the incidence of future traumatic stress disorders
and help return individual, families, and communities to normal,
healthy emotional and spiritual functioning.
Historical examples of debriefings as well as specific techniques
for implementing debriefings will be the topic of this interactive
seminar. Experts from marriage and family therapy, the military,
and child services have constructed a training sure to be stimulating,
interactive and especially helpful during these difficult times.
