The September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States have
had significant and sustained emotional aftermath. The need
for mental health professionals to respond in creative and
helpful ways has been evident in the aftermath of these
attacks. Participants in this training will learn how to
understand and recognize responses to traumatic events,
conduct debriefings, and focus on the needs of special populations
such as children and families. Using the techniques presented
will help therapists reduce the incidence of future traumatic
stress disorders and help return individual, families, and
communities to normal, healthy emotional and spiritual functioning.
Historical
examples of debriefings as well as specific techniques for
implementing debriefings will be the topic of this interactive
seminar. Experts from marriage and family therapy, the military,
and child services have constructed a training sure to be
stimulating, interactive and especially helpful during these
difficult times.
