How to Download Free Software

Private Lessons Channel strives to make engaging online interactive courses for both the High and Low bandwidth customer. All of PLC's courses utilize free software which you can obtain on the Internet. You do not need to buy any expensive software to enjoy the interactive nature of a PLC course.

Downloading this software from the internet can be confusing, but PLC has made this a quick and easy process. Below is a list of the free software you may need to download from the internet and instructions to guide you through the download process. If you have never downloaded software off of the Internet before, please print out a copy of these instructions.

Real Player - Access real time audio and video on the Internet.
Macromedia Flash Player - Access animation on the Internet.
QuickTime Player - Access, video, sound, animation and music on the Internet.
Paragon Tutor - Required for Microsoft Office Expert Courses.

Real Player - Click on this link to go to the Real Player Site

  • Click on the Real Audio link above and this will take you to the Real Audio Home Page.
  • Click on the "Free Real One Player" link in the upper right corner of the page.
  • Click on the "Download the Free RealOne Player Only" link on the lower right.
  • Enter required information, read the rest of the page and download the software.
  • After you have downloaded the RealPlayer you will need to get back to PLC's website to start enjoying online e-learning. Go to the address bar at the top of your browser, enter www.privatelessons.net and this will take you back to the PLC Home page.

Macromedia Flash Player - Click on this link to go to the Macromedia site

  • Click on the Flash link above and this will take you to the Macromedia Home Page.
  • Click on the "Install Now" button.
  • After you have downloaded the "Macromedia Flash Player" you will need to get back to PLC's website to start enjoying online e-learning with. Go to the address bar at the top of your browser, enter www.privatelessons.net and this will take you back to the PLC Home Page.

QuickTime Player - Click on this link to go to the QuickTime Player Site

  • Click on the QuickTime link above and this will take you to the QuickTime Download page.
  • At the top left of the page there will be text that reads "Download the free player."
  • Simply choose the operating system (Windows, Mac, etc.) that you have and the language you use (English, French, etc.)
  • Click on "Download Quicktime" and follow the instructions given by your computer to finish the Download.
  • After you have downloaded "QuickTime" you will need to get back to PLC's website to start enjoying online e-learning. Go to the address bar at the top of you browser, enter www.privatelessons.net and this will take you back to the PLC Home Page.

Paragon Plugin Download Instructions

  • For all of the Expert courses in Microsoft Office, you will need to download a special plugin. This is a tool that will provide a highly interactive experience for these courses. You only need to download it once because the plugin works for all of the other Expert courses in this series. Please print out these instructions. They will guide you through the one-time download and installation procedure.
  • Step 1. Click on Paragon Tutor plugin to the download the plugin.
  • Step 2. Choose Save this program to disk when the pop-up window asks you what you would like to do with the file. Then, hit OK.
  • Step 3. Next, you'll see the Save As pop-up window appear. We suggest that you save the program to your desktop. Be sure that the word Desktop is in the Save in box (at the top of this Save As window.) If it is not there, simply click on the down arrow to the right of the Save in box. A pull down menu will appear. Move your cursor over the word Desktop and click your mouse button. The word Desktop will then appear in the Save in box. Once you've done this, click on the Save button in the lower right corner of this window.
  • Step 4. The file will now download onto your desktop. This may take a few minutes if you are on a dial-up connection to the Internet. Remember, you only need to do this procedure once for all of the Expert Office courses and it is well worth the few minutes of waiting as the power of these highly interactive programs speak for themselves
  • Step 5. Once the download is complete, minimize the browser window (Netscape or Internet Explorer - whichever you are using) by clicking on the box with a dash in it in the upper right corner of the browser window. It will be on the blue bar most likely at the very top of your screen. You'll see three boxes there; the box with the dash is the first one on the left.
  • Step 6. Now with that window minimized, you should be at your desktop. If not, continue to minimize other windows (just like you did in Step 5) until you are.
  • Step 7. Now, double click on the icon on your desktop called ptinstall02k. A pop-up window will appear with the message "This will install Paragon Tutor. Do you wish to continue?" Click on Yes.
  • Step 8. There will be a series of messages. Just click on the Next button on all of the screens where you see a Next button at the bottom of the window.
  • Step 9. The last screen will have a Finish button at the bottom of the screen. Click on the Finish button. You're done! And, you can now take all of the Office Expert courses without having to download and install this plugin again!
  • Now you're ready to take the Lesson. When you click on the Hands-On Tutorials (which is the interactive tutorial part) in the Lessons, you will see a pop-up window that says: "You have chosen to download a file from this location." We suggest that you choose the Open this file from its current location option and then click on the OK button at the bottom of that pop-up window. The file will then start loading. It may take a few minutes on a dial-up connection to the Internet, but is well worth the wait. Lastly, if you don't hear the audio, or you get an error message about the audio, you will need to download the Real Audio plugin from this page. Again, this is easy and you only need to do it once.
